John Moerer, a senior at Salt Lake Lutheran High School, has been named one of 120 regional finalists in the 1994 Wendy's High School Heisman Award competition.

The program recognizes academic achievement, community service and athletic accomplishment.Moerer is a member of the baseball, basketball and track teams at his school as well as the Student Council.

He is also editor of the school newspaper.

He will compete against 59 other male students for national semifinalist and finalist recognition.

Judges, including former Heisman Trophy award winners, will review the accomplishments of the competitors.

Semifinalists will receive $1,000 awards for their schools. Twelve national finalists representing six geographic regions, will be selected.

They will travel to New York in December to participate in Heisman Trophy activities and to be recognized for their outstanding high school work.
