The Provo police hostage negotiation team talked a man into surrendering after he barricaded himself for about three hours in his vehicle with a sawed-off shotgun and handgun Monday night.

According to Provo police spokeswoman Karen Morales-Mayne, the 27-year-old man approached a group outside the Alcohol Recovery Center, 1726 S. Dakota Lane, at about 8:36 p.m. and threatened to harm others inside the building and himself. He then returned to his pickup truck and threatened to take his life.At about 11:25 p.m. the man surrendered and was taken into custody. Police recovered the shotgun and .38-caliber revolver from his truck.
