A former Idahoan touched by the story of a Challis girl who has been missing for more than a year has established a scholarship fund in her name at the University of Idaho.

J. Michael Mahoney of Larkspur, Calif., recently donated $155,000 to establish the Stephanie Crane Honorary Scholarship Fund at the Moscow school.Interest income from the endowment each year will be given to students attending the university. First preference will be given to Custer County students.

Stephanie Crane, whose 10th birthday was in late September, was last seen walking home from a Challis bowling alley on Oct. 11, 1993.

Mahoney learned of the girl's disappearance from a newspaper story during a recent trip to Idaho.
