Salt Lake City has hired Juan Sanchez as director of human resources and Michael Stever as emergency program manager.

Sanchez was formerly acting president of Workforce 2000, a consulting firm in Huntsville, Utah, and Los Angeles. The company specializes in human resource diversity and quality improvement.Prior to that, Sanchez was regional vice president of human resources for Coca Cola Bottling in northern California. He also worked as regional manager of human resources with McDonald's restaurants and district manager of human resources with GTE, both in Southern California.

While with McDonald's, Sanchez developed a minority college internship program that has since been adopted internationally.

Sanchez will oversee, develop and implement a variety of programs for Salt Lake City's more than 2,000 employees.

Stever's assignment is to ensure that Salt Lake City is prepared for emergencies and disasters.

He will coordinate the city's efforts with federal and state agencies.

Stever formerly worked as the training program manager for the Utah Division of Comprehensive Emergency Management. In that position, Stever developed and managed statewide disaster training and simulation programs, and public information.

Before joining the state, Stever was the deputy director of emergency services and director of information and public affairs for Weber County.
