The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced a new "Fund for the Met" to support what it says are amibitious plans for expanding services to the public.
Officials say $110 million has already been raised toward the fund-raising campaign's $300 million goal. The campaign marks the official launching of the museum's yearlong celebration of its 125th anniversary.The expansion period of one master plan is complete. "Our proposed capital projects now call for a new era of building from within," said museum director Philippe de Montebello. "Many undeveloped spaces at the Metropolitan will be captured."
Museum officials say funds from the campaign will go to such projects as the renovation of the Greek and Roman galleries.
