Provo city traffic engineers have synchronized the traffic lights around Cougar Stadium to handle traffic after Brigham Young University football games more efficiently and safely.
"As a result, there will be fewer officers in the intersections directing traffic," said Steve Baker of the BYU Traffic Office. "However, police officers will be posted at most major intersections to monitor traffic and help with pedestrians."To decrease the impact of post-game traffic on local streets, the following adjustments will be made for the Thursday, Nov. 9, game against San Diego State:
Left turns from University Avenue onto either University Parkway or 2230 North will be re-stricted.
Right turns from University Avenue onto either University Parkway or 1230 North heading west will be restricted.
"Those who normally turn west on University Parkway or 1230 North from University Avenue can turn west on 800 North or 3700 North," said Baker. "An excellent and generally quicker route to the freeway is University Avenue north to either Orem Center Street or 800 North and then west."
Cougar fans leaving the game or driving through the area at the end of the game should obey traffic- control devices and those officers assisting vehicles or pedestrians, said Baker. "Please don't block the intersections, and watch out for pedestrians," he added.
