Dales Gates, Salt Lake City, recently received a Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association's Heroes Award given to people who promote sportsmanship, participation and excellence in sports.

Gates has volunteered countless hours over the past 25 years to coach more than 80 different youth sports teams and has expanded local basketball leagues to nearby towns.
