Spanish Fork voters held the key to mass-transit service to four south Utah County cities, and those voters overwhelming turned the key in favor of bringing bus service to the four communities.

Voters in Spanish Fork, Payson, Salem and Mapleton voted by more than 2-1 in favor of joining the Utah Transit Authority. The only city where the voting was even close was Mapleton, where 57 percent voted in favor of UTA annexation.More than 70 percent of voters in Spanish Fork approved the annexation. For Payson, Salem and Mapleton to get UTA service, the issue had to be approved in Spanish Fork. Provo Canyon voters also unanimously approved annexing into UTA, which will bring much-needed bus service to Sundance Ski Resort.

By approving the issues, residents will pay an additional one-quarter of 1 percent in sales tax.
