No further building will be allowed in Mona for the next six months.

Recently, Mona Town Council members voted to place the moratorium on residential dwelling construction in all zones within the town. The decision was passed by a 2-1 vote. The moratorium was imposed to allow the council time to study whether enough culinary water is available to serve new dwellings.

Council member Craig Allred was unhappy with the moratorium wording and voted against it. He said he did not like the prohibition of all construction including reconstruction or alterations. He said he did not think that type of construction would impact the water system.

Council members Darlene Fowkes and John Sutherland voted for the moratorium.

The Mona Irrigation Company, with the support of the Town Council, is working toward the installation of a pressurized irrigation system. The irrigation company hopes to have the system in place for the next irrigating season.

Council members said that once the system is working, it would help conserve more water for culinary use.

Council members agreed to honor five building permits approved prior to the moratorium.
