Frank Junior Petty, 67, a former member of the State Board of Regents and active community worker, died Nov. 4, 1994, at his home of cancer.
Mr. Petty served on the Board of Regents for six years. He also was a member of what is now the Southern Utah University Institutional Council and had received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the school in 1984. He had also been recognized with an SUU Distinguished Service Award.From 1965 until his retirement in 1987, he was Cedar City postmaster, being named Utah's Outstanding Postmaster in 1982. Since retiring, he had managed the post office at Hurst's Store in St. George. He was an officer in the National Association of Postmasters for 16 years.
Mr. Petty was elected to two terms on the Cedar City Council and was active in the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs. For many years, he was associated with the Cedar City Music Arts Committee.
His funeral will be in the Cedar LDS Stake Center at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11. Friends may call at Metcalf Mortuary in St. George Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and at Southern Utah Mortuary, Cedar City, Thursday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to noon Friday. Burial will be in the Cedar City Cemetery.
