West Valley residents overwhelmingly approved the city's efforts to secure a recreation and performing arts center Tuesday, agreeing to tax themselves to fund it.

Sixty percent of the residents who participated in the citywide straw poll, or 6,659 people, said yes to the proposed community center; 40 percent, or 4,523, said no.The center, which would include meeting rooms, indoor sports, a kitchen and a 500-seat theater, will cost residents an additional $2 to $3 per month in property taxes.
