Voters agreed by just over 2-1 Tuesday to float a $1.5 million bond to construct a new city swimming pool.
City officials estimate owners of a $75,000 home will pay an additional $36 in property tax to pay off the bond. The new pool will be built on the site of the current one at 520 E. 300 South. At 408,000 gallons, it will be nearly three times the size of the existing pool. The new facility will included larger deck and grass areas, private dressings rooms, a concession stand and a water slide. It also will meet the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
"It needs to be built to handle the needs of the city well into the future," said Mayor Lloyd Ash.
Construction of the pool could begin early next spring. City officials anticipate opening the facility in late summer.
