Hawaii tops Y. women
HONOLULU - After pulling out a close contest in Hawaii Tuesday, BYU's women's basketball team came up just short Thursday when a hot-shooting Hawaii squad squeezed out a 74-70 victory over the Cougars.
Debbie Dimond led the Cougars' attack with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Shannon MacCormac added 14 off the bench.
Y. spikers honored
BYU senior setter Charlene Johnson was named to the first team of the the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Western Region squads Thursday, while Cougar outside hitter Marianne Clark earned second-team honors.
For Johnson, a 1993 All-American, this is her fourth straight year on the All-West Region team, including a first-team selection last year. Her senior season was highlighted by breaking the BYU record for career assists and becoming the first BYU setter to record over 5,000 assists.
Clark is making her first appearance on the AVCA list. She was the Cougars' leader in hitting percentage for the season (2.52).
Y. wrestlers on road
Saturday's dual meet at Boise State is the final meet before Christmas for BYU's wrestling team. The Cougars take a 1-1 dual record to the meet at BSU.
