Leemon Durwood Petersen, 69 years old, passed away December 9, 1994.
Born June 27, 1925 in Garfield, Utah to Durwood and Mamie Knabe Petersen. Married Emma Joy Kirk January 3, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple.Active member of the LDS Church, where he served as Stake Mission President of the Oquirrh Stake (now called Magna Utah Stake). He served as a temple worker at the Salt Lake and Jordan River Temples. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. He worked for A.S. & R. and Kennecott Copper for 37 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, target shooting and reloading his own ammunition, and doing genealogy. He enjoyed performing magic tricks for his grandchildren. He was always telling jokes and making friends wherever he went.
Survived by wife, Joy; sons, Thorpe L. (Quica), Jerryle L. (Alice), Rodney L. (Kitty), Clint L. (Joanne), Bryan L. (Chris), and Eris L. (Charlane), daughters, DarLynne (Karl) Francis, Starla (David) Skeem, and Gloriann (Budd) Egan, brother, Mereanus, 41 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Also adopted as a father and grandfather by others who loved him.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 13, 1994, 1 p.m. in the Magna Stake Center, 3084 So. 8400 West, where friends may call both Monday 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday 12-12:45 p.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park. Funeral directors, Peel Funeral Home.
