HOG WEEK, R.I.P

Are we dreaming? Those unstoppable reformers of the House of Representatives have decided to ban "commemorative legislation," responsible for such public boons as National Asparagus Week.

Imagine: Our legislators will voluntarily forgo trivializing their own function in that time-honored way. Next thing you know, they'll be writing bills in English, confining them to a single subject, and holding four-square votes on controversial issues, instead of stage-managing pseudo-votes so they can go on record on both sides of vexed questions.
