PATRICK McMANUS, whose latest book of humorous stories is "How I Got This Way," will be in Salt Lake City this week for signings and to participate in Tim Behrens' one-man show based on McManus' "A Fine and Pleasant Misery." He'll sign books before the performances at Highland Park Elementary School, 1738 E. 2700 South, at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, and Saturday, Dec. 17. He will also drop by Sam Weller's book store at noon Friday; at the Fort Union Deseret Book at noon Saturday; and at the ZCMI Center Deseret Book at 4 p.m. Saturday.

- FRANCOIS CAMOIN and SHELLY HUNT will read from their works as part of the City Art Reading Series at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church, 175 S. 700 East.- BOYD RICHARDSON will autograph copies of his book "The Knife Thrower" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Fort Union Deseret Book.

- RANELLE WALLACE, author of "The Burning Within," will make a series of appearances during the week. She will speak on two evenings, Thursday, Dec. 15, in the Skyline High School auditorium and Friday, Dec. 16, at Orem High School. Admission is free, and both begin at 7 p.m. Wallace will also sign books at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Booktable in Logan; Waldenbooks in Fashion Place Mall at 1 p.m. Thursday; A Woman's Place in Cottonwood Mall at noon Friday; and, on Saturday, Dec. 17, at Barnes and Noble in West Bountiful at 11 a.m., at Deseret Book in Orem's University Mall at 3 p.m. and at Waldenbooks in South Towne Mall at 6 p.m.

- CHRIS HEIMERDINGER and JENNIE HANSEN will be signing their books at Seagull Book and Tape, 1720 S. Redwood Road, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. Heimerdinger's books include "Daniel and Nephi" and "Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites," while Hansen's is "When Tomorrow Comes."

- ELEANOR KNOWLES, author of "Howard W. Hunter," a biography of the LDS Church president, will sign copies of her book at the ZCMI Center Deseret Book at noon Thursday,

Dec. 15.

- MARILYN SCHARINE, professor of speech and theater at Westminster College, will celebrate the holiday season with a free reading from Tolstoy at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at the Bountiful/Davis Art Center. Scharine also is interviewer and producer of the "Our Arts" program on KRCL radio. For information call 292-0367.

- RICHARD EVANS and BLAINE YORGASON, whose latest books are "The Christmas Box" and "Spiritual Progression in the Last Days," respectively, will be at the ZCMI Center Deseret Book beginning at noon Friday, Dec. 16. Yorgason will also be at the Layton Hills Deseret Book at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17.

- KITTY DE RUYTER will sign her new book, "As I Have Loved You," at the Deseret Book in the Cottonwood Mall at noon Saturday, Dec. 17.
