Mountain Fuel Supply Co.'s revolving rooftop time-and-temperature sign - a fixture in downtown Salt Lake City since 1967 - will be permanently removed Saturday to accommodate a building renovation.
Mountain Fuel installed the first revolving sign 27 years ago. The existing sign was erected in 1975 and the time and temperature bar was added later. Salt Lake City no longer allows rooftop signs in the central business district. However, the Mountain Fuel sign was allowed to remain with the understanding it could not be updated or replaced."Aside from the necessity of removing the sign in order to renovate the building, the sign is aging and increasingly difficult to maintain," said Curt Burnett, Questar vice president of public affairs.
The renovated building will be headquarters for Questar and a number of its affiliates, including Mountain Fuel.
