The Utah Valley State College student theater has a new name - the Florence Bullock Ragan Theater, after a Provo great-grandmother.
"Florence Ragan has been successful throughout her business career and has always given back to the community with her talents, time and resources," said Kerry D. Romesburg, president of the college, at ceremonies conducted Wednesday."We are honored to have her as a friend and colleague, and we are pleased to recognize all she has done and continues to do, by dedicating our theater as the Florence Bullock Ragan Theater."
Ragan is a native of Springville who currently lives in Provo near her two children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She has served in various community positions including the UVSC Foundation Board and the Riverside Country Club Board. She has been involved with the development of downtown Provo.
As a young woman, she managed and bought Stevens Ready To Wear in Provo. She was also responsible for bringing Lerner retail stores to Utah Valley in the early 1950's. In 1956, Ragan and her daughter, JoAnn, opened Bullocks Jewel Box which is currently Alard and Losee Jewelers.
She married George Bullock who owned Bullocks Billiards. He died in 1968, and she married Brad E. Ragan, who owned the largest Good Year Tire dealership in the world.
"She is a striking woman who is family-oriented and very active in her community," said JoAnn Losee.
