Leaders of Salt Lake City's bid for the 2002 Winter Games fielded questions from the international media Wednesday morning at a press conference during a meeting of the Association of National Olympic Committees in Atlanta.

A couple of the questions dealt with local controversies, including the flap over the Salt Lake Olympic Bid Committee's successful attempt to stop school children from debating the bid.Tom Welch, bid committee president, said he wasn't surprised the world's media was interested. They "all read what comes out of Salt Lake. Those are valid issues, just like what facilities we're building."

The bid committee is scheduled to make a presentation on Salt Lake City to the NOC and the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee on Friday with the help of Salt Lake Mayor Deedee Corradini.
