Sen. Bob Bennett now has the job of ensuring that the Senate at least has a prayer for success.
He has been appointed to a two-year term as leader of the Senate Prayer Breakfast. That means he will co-chair the annual National Prayer Breakfast with President Clinton in 1996."The weekly breakfast is a time when senators, in a bipartisan fashion, come together dropping all ecclesiastical barriers and providing each other with inspirational words of wisdom," said Bennett, who was once an Army chaplain and a bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Bennett will oversee assigning speakers for the weekly event.
This year's National Prayer Breakfast is scheduled on Feb. 2, and will be hosted by Clinton and the leader of the House Prayer Breakfast, Rep. Martin Lancaster, D-N.C. Bennett will co-chair the 1996 National Prayer Breakfast with the president.
