Better late than never. Connecticut Gov. Lowell P. Weicker has finally - and reluctantly - paid off his bet with radio jock Don Imus.

Weicker bet Imus $1,000 that Lt. Gov. Eunice S. Groark, a member of Weicker's A Connecticut Party, would win the Connecticut gubernatorial election. Imus put his money behind the eventual victor, Republican John G. Rowland."I wish I could say that this payoff is being made in good spirits. That would belie my clenched teeth," Weicker, who didn't run for re-election, wrote in a letter to Imus that was released Thursday.
