SHARE JOHNSEN LEADS MURRAY TO UPSET OF BINGHAM

Jeff Johnsen scored a game-high 33 points to lift Murray to a 62-51 upset of 5A powerhouse Bingham Thursday.

The Spartans (2-1), ranked fifth in the 4A ranks, outscored the Miners 35-21 in the second half to take control of the preseason contest.Bingham (1-1) entered the game ranked second.

Alta 71, Ben Lomond 51

At Roy, Adam Sharp scored 15 points and Nate Knight added 11 as top-ranked Alta opened its season on a winning note with a 71-51 win over Ben Lomond.

The Hawks will face Springville Friday in the championship game of the annual Roy-Ben Lomond Classic. The co-hosts will meet in the consolation game.

Springville 71, Roy 54

At Roy, Jake Huff's 21 points paced the Red Devils to an easy win over Roy in the opening round of the Roy-Ben Lomond Classic. Jesse Weight added 17 to aid the winning cause.

North Sanpete 78, Wayne 73

At North Sanpete, the fifth-ranked Hawks survived a scare from the 1A Badgers. Eric Dyches finished with a game-high 23 points for North Sanpete, while Brad Laing led Wayne with 19.

Durango, Colo. 58, Monticello 54

At Monticello, Steve Freestone's 17 points weren't enough to keep the Buckaroos from falling to a Colorado crew in preseason play.

Weber 78, Cyprus 63

At Weber, the Warriors advanced to the finals of their own tournament by blasting the Pirates. The Weber Warrior Shootout concludes Friday with the hosts playing Overland in the title game with Cyprus and Evanston meeting for consolation honors.

Int. Christian 64, Juab 52

At Juab, Greg VanHeyst scored 20 points to lead the fifth-ranked Lions to an impressive win over the Wasps Wednesday. The 1A victors outscored their 3A hosts 17-3 in the fourth quarter.
