Officials of U.S. Skiing and two resorts believe their offer to relieve Europe of weather-plagued men's races by conducting them in the United States will be rejected.

Men's races set for Val d'Isere, France, and Val Gardena, Italy, have been canceled due to poor snow conditions and unseasonably warm temperatures. Races in Alta Badia and Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, set for Dec. 11 and 13 are currently pending for the same reason.Last week, U.S. Skiing offered to stage those races at Vail and Park City, if arrangements with sponsors and insurance could be made. Those changes, however, do not appear likely. As of Thursday, the International Ski Federation was indicating it will continue to try to find sites in Europe for the races.
