SHARE CONSTRUCTION WORKER DIES IN ELECTRICAL ACCIDENT

A Provo man was electrocuted in a freak accident Wednesday afternoon.

Killed was:Matthew Peterson, 22.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., Peterson was at work at a Pleasant Grove construction site, 50 S. 1400 East, when he received a large electric charge, killing him instantly.

According to Pleasant Grove Police Lt. Tom Paul, Peterson - who was a temporary worker at the site - and others were watching a truck with a boom crane lift shingles to a roof when the truck accidentally struck a power line and severed it.

The line then plunged to the ground, striking the truck and sending a large charge through it. Peterson, who was outside the vehicle but was tightening the device holding the shingles, received the brunt of the charge, Paul said.

Pleasant Grove Police officers and fire crews responded to the scene, where paramedics attempted to revive Peterson. He was taken to American Fork Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Two workers inside the truck were uninjured.
