- WYOMING HAS A SNOWMOBILE HOTLINE. Beginning Dec. 5, the Wyoming Division of Tourism will update snowmobile conditions throughout the state on a weekly basis on its toll-free tourist information hotline, 1-800-225-5996. The hotline will include information on the Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail, which runs 360 miles from Lander, Wyo., to West Yellowstone, Mont. The trail crosses the Wind River Mountains. Stopping points include Pinedale, Dubois and Togwotee Mountain Lodge. New this year is a section through Grand Teton National Park connecting Togwotee Pass to the south entrance to Yellowstone. Wyoming snowmobile trails manager Jim Smail cautions snowmobilers to obey the rules along the Grand Teton section. "The first person to jump his machine onto the highway will kill the project," he said. The trail is adjacent to the road through Grand Teton National Park. The speed limit is 35 mph.

- SCENIC VIRGINIA. The Map of Scenic Roads in Virginia suggests more than 2,000 miles of scenic routes that are off the beaten path of interstate highway travel. For a free copy as well as free Virginia travel information, call 1-800-VA-LOVE. The map highlights roads that have been designated Virginia Byways as well as more than 1,000 miles of proposed byways. Historic districts, sites and attractions, state and national parks and recreational areas, Revolutionary and Civil War battlefields and American Indian reservations are marked on the map. It also includes suggested drives that would make interesting one- to three-day trips.- EUROPE BY RAIL. Some European rail passes will increase in price next year. Others will not increase over 1994 prices. According to Stephen F. Forsyth, president of Forsyth Travel Library in Shawnee Mission, Kan., prices on most BritRail, Swiss, French, Benelux, Austrian and some Italian rail passes will increase substantially on Jan. 1, 1995. Travelers who buy their passes, which are valid for six months from the date of purchase, before Jan. 1 will save substantially. Prices of the Eurail Pass and the new EuroPass will not increase in 1995. Some rail-drive programs will actually decrease in price after the first of the year, so postpone your purchase of those packages until then. The BritRail-Drive, six days of rail travel and seven days of auto rental with Hertz, all within a month, will lower prices in 1995 by $132 per person for the intermediate size auto using standard rail transportation. The savings for two people over the 1994 price is $264. Forsyth's Travel Library publishes a Summary of 1995 European Rail Pass Price Changes. For a copy send a self-addressed, stamped (29 cents), business-size envelope to Rail Pass Summary, Forsyth Travel Library Inc., P.O. Box 2975, Shawnee Mission, KS 66201.
