JAPANESE, UTAH ARTISTS TO PERFORM AT CONCERT MONDAY

SHARE JAPANESE, UTAH ARTISTS TO PERFORM AT CONCERT MONDAY

A group of 70 artists and musicians from Gifu Prefecture, Utah's sister state in Japan, will be in Salt Lake City this week. As part of this cultural exchange, a Goodwill Concert will be presented Monday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. at Rowland Hall-St. Mark's School, 843 S. 945 East.

Performing will be a traditional Japanese folk singer, shamisen and koto musicians and the Bachi-gai Singers from Gifu, along with such Utah groups as the Utah Baroque Ensemble, the Brigham Young University Jazz Band and the Abramyan String Quartet.There will also be a Japanese Art and Cultural Exhibition from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the same day at the Red Lion Hotel.

Both events are free to the public.

The visit following the signing of joint declaration last May by Gov. Mike Leavitt and Gifu Prefecture Gov. Taka Kajiwara that, among other items, pledged to build mutual cultural understanding.
