One of America's great early passenger aircraft was the Ford Trimotor, first produced in 1926. It was nicknamed "The Tin Goose."
A sturdy high-wind monopine of all-metal construction, with three radial engines, it became America's first successful airliner, carrying 10 passengers.
A total of 200 was constructed and they flew throught the early 1930s.
Admiral Byrd used the Trimotor in 1929 to make the first flight over the South Pole.
