Britain's Windsor Castle was the scene of a fire Nov. 20, 1992, one of the misfortunes striking the royal family. But oil has been discovered under the 900-year-old castle, the queen's weekend place. Seismic studies indicate a small oil field 1,000 feet beneath the structure 20 miles west of London, and Queen Elizabeth II has given Canuk Exploration Ltd. permission to sink a well in her garden to test reserves. If they're commercially viable, the government gets first dibs on royalties.
