Amy Gayheart, a student from South Jordan Middle School, stretches to hang an ornament on the state Christmas tree Tuesday in the Capitol rotunda. Directed by the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the decorating effort features 248 winter sports and Olympic-themed ornaments. Additionally, 185 international flags from countries that participate in the Olympic games adorn the rotunda. The ornaments and flags were made by students in 17 different schools throughout Utah. A tree lighting ceremony is scheduled at noon Wednesday. The chamber heads the community events subcommittee for the Salt Lake Olympic Bid Committee. "We wanted the whole state to feel a part of the Olympic movement," said Alison Barnett of the chamber staff.
