James Garner was filming an upcoming "Rockford Files" movie in Los Angeles when the scene suddenly deviated from the script.

Police say pedestrian Juan Vasquez ran in front of Garner's Pontiac Firebird during filming Wednesday. The car was going 15 mph.Vasquez, who suffered only minor injuries, said he didn't know Garner was behind the wheel.

"Wow! That's a surprise to me," he said from a hospital, where a spokeswoman said he was in "very good" condition.

Floyd Johnson, executive producer of the TV movie, said Garner was unable to avoid the accident.
