The Utah Winter Sports Park, with support from the Utah Winter Games and the Utah Sports Authority, is offering three free recreational ski jumping clinics.

The first clinic will be Saturday from noon and 2 p.m. Two more will be Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. and Dec. 14 at noon and 2 p.m. (See schedule below.)The park, located near Park City, has opened for the 1994-95 season. It is the only facility in North America to offer recreational ski jumping to the public on 18 and 38 meter ski jumps.

Recreational ski jumping sessions will be available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Following is a schedule of clinics over the next two weeks.

INTRODUCTORY CLINICS, brought to you by the Utah Sports Authority and Utah Winter Games

LEARN TO ALPINE SKI RACE

Date: Dec. 9.

Venue: Park City Ski Resort.

Format: Must be at least an intermediate skier. No previous racing experience necessary.

Registration: 4:30 p.m.- 6 p.m. at the Park City Race Dept., Resort Plaza behind the main ticket office to the East.

Time: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Instruction and coaching 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. Practice running gates on Park City Challenge Race Course.

Instructor: Park City Ski School instructors.

Cost: No charge, but you must purchase a discounted lift ticket.

Bring: Must furnish own ski equipment.

Date: Dec. 17.

Venue: Snowbird Ski Resort.

Format: Learn to race, must be at least an intermediate skier. No previous racing experience necessary.

Registration: 9 - 10 a.m. at the Race Building, Entry 1, Snowbird.

Time: 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. Instruction, 1 - 3 p.m. Practice running gates.

DISABLED ALPINE

Date: Jan. 17,18,19.

Venue: Park City Ski Resort.

Format: Learn to race. Skiing experience necessary.

Registration: Pre-registration required. Call the National Ability Center at 649-3991.

Time: 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.- 3 p.m.

Instructor: National Ability Center instructors.

Cost: $20, includes lift ticket and clinic.

Bring: Ski equipment if you have it, some equipment will be available for use if you don't.

Come out and get ready for the Huntsman Cup Jan. 20, 21, 22.

BIATHLON

Date: Dec. 10.

Venue: White Pine Touring Center, Park City.

Format: Learn to Biathion and rifle safety clinic, no experience necessary.

Registration: 8:30 - 9 a.m. at the White Pine Touring Center.

Time: 9 a.m.

Instructor: Gary Wallin, Utah National Guard.

Cost: No charge.

Bring: .22 rifle and cross country skis. The National Guard will provide ammunition and a few rifles. If you need skis, White Pine Touring will provide them. Call 649-8701 to reserve skis.

Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Anyone participating in the Biathlon events on Dec. 31 or Jan. 1 must attend a rifle safety clinic.

LEARN TO CROSS COUNTRY SKI

Date: Dec. 10.

Venue: White Pine Touring, Park City.

Format: Classic style will be taught for first time skiers, skating style taught for advanced alpine skiers or proficient classic skiers.

Registration: Please register 1/2 hour before scheduled clinic start time inside the White Pine Touring Center. Each clinic is limited to the first 35 participants.

Time: 10 - 11: 30 a.m. Classic; 11:30 a.m - 1 p.m. skating; 1 - 2:30 p.m. skating; 2:30 - 4 p.m. classic.

Instructor: White Pine Touring instructors.

Cost: No Charge.

Bring: Ski equipment if you have it, otherwise White Pine will provide skis. Call White Pine Touring at 649-8701 to reserve skis.

LEARN TO SKI ARCHERY

Date: Dec. 11 and 18.

Venue: White Pine Touring Center, Park City.

Format: Learn to ski archery, should be at least an intermediate cross county skier.

Registration: 9:30 - 10 a.m. at the White Pine Touring Center.

Time: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Instructor: Salt Lake Archery instructors.

Cost: No charge.

Bring: Skis, bows and arrows if you have them. Salt Lake Archery will provide bows and arrows and White Pine will provide skis if you need them. Call White Pine at 649-8701 to reserve skis.

Date: Dec. 11.

Venue: Salt Lake Archery, 1130 East Wilmington (2200 South).

Format: Learn to shoot, no experience necessary.

Time: 2 - 6 p.m., anytime during these hours.

Instructor: Salt Lake Archery instructors.

Cost: No Charge.

Bring: Bow and arrows if you have them, otherwise Salt Lake Archery will provide them.

LEARN TO SKI JUMP

Date: Dec. 10, 14 and 18.

Venue: Utah Winter Sports Park.

Format: Learn to jump, must be at least an intermediate skier.

Registration: At base of jumps before each clinic. Arrive early, as registration begins one hour before each scheduled start time and each clinic is limited to 50 participants. You must be ready to go at the scheduled start times listed above.

Time: Dec. 10 - noon and 2 p.m.; Dec. 14 - 6 p.m.; and Dec. 18 - noon and 2 p.m. All clinics teach the same skill, please choose one.

Instructor: Ski jump instructors from the Bear Hollow Winter Sports Club.

Cost: No charge.

Bring: Must have own ski equipment (alpine, telemark or jumping skis). Please do not bring ski poles. Helmets are MANDATORY, and they must cover the ear. Helmets will be available for rent at Jan's Sportshop at the Sports Park for $5 per day.

LEARN TO SNOWBOARD

Date: Dec. 17.

Venue: Wolf Mountain Ski Resort.

Format: Learn to snowboard, no experience necessary.

Registration: Outside ticket office from 9:30 - 10 a.m.

Time: 10 a.m. - noon.

Instructor: Wolf Mountain Ski School instructors.

Cost: No charge, but must purchase a lift ticket, $25.

Bring: Snowboard if you have one. Need soft high top snow boots (Sorel, Moonboots). Jan's Mountain Outfitters will have manufacturers' reps for Snowboards and some boots on site for demos if you do not own your own equipment.

Date: Dec. 17.

Venue: Wolf Mountain Ski Resort.

Format: Learn to 1/2 Pipe, must have snowboarding experience.

Registration: Outside ticket office from 1:30 - 2 p.m.

Time: 2 - 4 p.m.

Instructor: Wolf Mountain Ski School instructors.

Cost: No charge, but must purchase a lift ticket, $25.

Bring: Snowboard and appropriate boots if you have them. Jan's Mountain Outfitters will have manufacturers' reps for snowboards and some boots on site for demos if you do not own your own equipment.

LEARN TO TELEMARK SKI

Date: Dec. 10.

Venue: Solitude Ski Resort.

Format: Learn to telemark, should be at least a beginner alpine or nordic skier.

Time: 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Registration: 9 - 9:30 a.m. outside of the Moonbeam Center, first entrance.

Instructor: Members from the Evolution Demo Team, the U.S. National Team and Wasatch Telemark Series.

Cost: No charge, but you must purchase a lift ticket.

Bring: Telemark equipment if you have it. Black Diamond will be on site with skis and boots for use and Evolution will be on site with skis for use.
