Orin "Bob" Howard, athlete, coach, official and highway patrolman, passed away Sunday in Salt Lake City. He was 91.
Howard, a member of the BYU Athletic Hall of Fame, was a football, basketball and track star while attending college in Provo. He also played professional baseball for several years. Howard taught and coached at Murray and Springville high schools before joining the Utah Highway Patrol in 1936, where he worked for 30 years. He also officiated football and basketball games in the Rocky Mountain, Skyline and Western Athletic Conferences.Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at the Wasatch Lawn Chapel, 3401 S. Highland Dr. There will also be a viewing Friday from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services.
