The Society of Manufacturing Engineers has granted $184,198 to the manufacturing engineering technology program at Weber State University.
The gift consists of $162,598 in computer software, $15,000 in machinery, $5,600 for curriculum development, and $1,000 for faculty development. The award, intended to encourage new developments in manufacturing engineering technology, is the 15th consecutive contribution SME has made to Weber State since 1979.
Kelly Harward, assistant professor of manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology, said the donations help Weber State maintain state-of-the art laboratories for students.
Harward said such industry contributions have contributed to Weber State's success. Last spring, Weber State was named in a nationwide study as one of the top manufacturing engineering technology programs in the United States.
