A body believed to be that of a 43-year-old Colorado man has been recovered from a remote canyon near southeastern Utah's Canyonlands National Park.

San Juan County deputy sheriff Bill King said Tuesday that the remains - identified as belonging to Thomas Hickey, of Boulder County, Colo. - were found in Lavender Canyon, about 25 miles northwest of Monticello and a mile from the park's east boundary.King said it appeared the victim lost his footing in the area, popular with rock climbers and hikers, and fell about 50 feet from a ledge.

The body was found shortly before 11 a.m. by search and rescue volunteers aided by six search dogs.
