SHARE HUMANE SOCIETY LAUDS SHEPHERD

On behalf of the 2.1 million members and constituents of The Humane Society of the United States, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Congresswoman Karen Shepherd, D-Utah, who is leaving the U.S. House of Representatives.

Shepherd has been a strong supporter of environmental and animal protection legislation, and she will be missed by us. We are especially appreciative of her work to protect endangered species, as well as her opposition to the cruel steel-jaw leghold trap. She thoroughly supported our efforts to establish the Mojave National Park in California as a true wildlife sanctuary. Unfortunately, the full Congress did not share her vision and created a hunting preserve instead. We congratulate Congresswoman-elect Enid Waldholtz, who will now represent Utah's 2nd Congressional District. We hope that she, too, will be a strong voice for animal protection.
