Investigators have learned that three teens may have participated in a drive-by shooting at a juvenile corrections facility.

Salt Lake County deputies recently obtained information that three teens from Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake fired shots at the Observation and Assessment Center, 61 W. 3900 South, two months ago during a spree of drive-by shootings.The center houses convicted juveniles while they undergo psychological testing and evaluation before they are sentenced.

A West Valley home in the 2400 South block of Derby Street (1400 West) was also hit as was a Kearns home on the 5100 South block of Alex Street (4320 West), according to a sheriff's report.

The juvenile facility apparently suffered no damage. No arrests have been made.

Kearns man shot in leg while moving his rifle

KEARNS - A 27-year-old Kearns man was injured over the weekend when he accidentally shot himself in the leg.

The man said he shot himself Friday morning while he was moving a .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle from one side of his bedroom to the other, a Salt Lake County sheriff's report states.

The victim was taken to Jordan Valley Hospital, where he was treated for the injury.

Teen ransacks home, sprays woman with Mace

EAST MILLCREEK - A woman was attacked and sprayed with Mace in her home by a teen burglarizing her residence.

The woman, 32, returned to her East Millcreek home about 3:45 p.m. Thursday and opened the door to let her two children inside while she retrieved things from her car. Moments later, she heard her children scream and cry because the house had been ransacked, a Salt Lake County sheriff's report states.

The woman told her children to hide in a room while she called her husband at work. While she was talking to his secretary, a boy about 16 or 17 grabbed her from behind and sprayed her in the face.

The intruder told her, "If you call the police, you're dead," according to the report. The woman screamed and the teen ran out of her bedroom.
