Price Mayor Lou Colosimo and Salt Lake businessman Bob Dal Ponte will receive Outstanding Alumni awards from College of Eastern Utah, President Michael A. Petersen announced recently. The awards will be presented during the annual Founder's Day Banquet Saturday, Feb. 26.
Colosimo is a lifelong resident of Carbon County. He was born and raised in the coal camps of Mohrland and Hiawatha and grew up in an environment where people depend on each other to get through the hard times of life. Colosimo says those hallmarks have guided him and his wife, Pat, throughout their lives.Colosimo is being recognized for his outstanding public service. He is serving a second term as mayor of Price. Previously, he served on the City Council for several years. While many projects have been undertaken during those years, Colosimo proudly points to the completion of the Peace Garden.
"His public service extends to include personal acts of kindness that show he really cares about people as individuals," Petersen said.
Dal Ponte spent many of his early years in Hiawatha. He graduated from Carbon High School and received a basketball scholarship at College of Eastern Utah where he maintained an "A" average. He transferred to the University of Utah as a junior and completed work on a bachelor's in mechanical engineering, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class.
He serves on numerous boards, including aviation advisory committees at Utah State University and Salt Lake Community College. He is also a member of the College of Eastern Utah's National Advisory Council and is assisting the CEU Prehistoric Museum with a project to develop new systems of making reproductions of fossilized artifacts without damaging the original artifact.
Besides Colosimo and Dal Ponte, CEU will present J. Eldon Dorman with an Eagle Award and induct Elvin Juliano and Boneta Harrison into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
The banquet will be in the Student Activity Center on the CEU campus. It begins with a social hour at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 and dancing to big band music at 8:30 p.m. Reservations are $20 per person and can be made by calling the CEU Development Office at 637-2120, Ext. 246.
