CANYON BLAZE: A fire Friday destroyed a 69-year-old building that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and housed some artifacts of former President Theodore Roosevelt, Grand Canyon National Park officials said. The community recreational center and library housed some old photographs and books signed by Roosevelt and had been on the National Register since 1985, according to files at the lodging firm that operated the building. It was once the site of a general store owned by the family of former Arizona Gov. Bruce Babbitt, now U.S. interior secretary.
