About 250 Bear River High School students walked out of class Friday morning to protest the firing of a popular teacher.
Principal Richard Williams said about 300 students had gathered in the gym to talk about his decision not to renew math teacher and assistant coach Phil Chapman's contract. After the meeting, some students returned to their classes, while the others marched away from the school in an orderly fashion, making their way out of Garland and through Tremonton to gather at the city park.
Chapman, who was not tenured, pleaded with the students to return to class.
