A Provo man told police he was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday and forced to withdraw money from automatic teller machines.
The victim, 22, stopped at a pay phone near 4500 S. State in Murray about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday. Two men in their 20s were standing by his car and asked if he could help because they were having car trouble. The victim offered to help them contact a friend and even offered to give them $20 from an ATM, a Salt Lake police report states. Once in the victim's car, one of the suspects held a gun to the back of the victim's head and said, "Do as we say and we won't hurt you."
The suspects forced the man to several banks and ordered him to withdraw money from an ATM. They also threatened to kill the victim and his wife, who was at home.
The victim was also choked and assaulted while in the car.
The robbers eventually left and the victim drove home. His wife drove him to a hospital and called police. Police said the man was afraid, confused and dazed from his injuries.
