The good news for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles is that they scored Saturday night. The bad news is that they lost again, this time 6-3 to the Indianapolis Ice.
Salt Lake, which had been shut out the two previous games, ended a nine period scoreless streak on Zigmund Palffy's 24th goal of the year early in the second period. At that time Salt Lake had a 1-0 lead, but it didn't last long, as the Ice scored three consecutive second period goals to take a 3-1 advantage into the final period.Scott Scissons and Joni Lehto scored goals for the Eagles in the third, but it wasn't enough. Salt Lake is now 18-47 on the year, while the Ice improved to 23-39(6).
Shawn Byram scored twice to lead Indianapolis. It was the fourth straight win for the Ice, their longest winning streak of the season.
The Golden Eagles will now travel to San Diego where they close out an eight-game road trip with games against the Gulls Monday and Wednesday. Salt lake will return home to play Cincinnati at the Delta Center March 26.
