Bad news for Montana accordionists: There will be no proclamation this year marking National Accordion Awareness Week. Same goes for National Anxiety Month and Carpenter Ant Awareness Week.

Gov. Marc Racicot has scrapped the routine proclamations, blaming budget constraints. His communications director, Andrew Malcolm, said one staffer used to spend about half of every day processing proclamations.The new policy was instituted last year - appropriately enough - without announcement. No groups have yet complained.
