Saying he was a friend to business and education, members of the Board of Governors of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce have honored Sen. Haven J. Barlow, R-Layton, who is retiring this year after a record 42 years in the Legislature.

Verl Topham, board chairman and president and chief executive officer of Utah Power, gave Barlow a tennis bag and tennis balls to thank him for supporting business and education.Topham said Barlow showed more enthusiasm for his job in the recent legislative session than many freshmen legislators.

A resolution adopted by the board called Barlow a man of integrity and honesty and thanked him for his years of service.
