SHARE OIL-RIG COUNT EDGES UP BY 3

The number of working oil and gas rigs nationwide edged up by three this week to 722, Baker Hughes Inc. said Friday.

Last week, the count dropped by 11 to 719. A year ago, the total was 619.Of the rigs running this week, 388 were exploring for natural gas, 319 for oil and 15 were listed as miscellaneous.

The rig count represents the number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas.

Of the major oil- and gas-producing states, New Mexico and Wyoming each gained three rigs, Kansas was up by two and California added a rig.

Louisiana's count was down by seven, Oklahoma lost two and North Dakota one. The counts in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Colorado did not change.
