Jerry Atkin, chairman and chief executive officer of SkyWest Airlines, has been named "Rolls-Royce Executive of the Year" by Commuter/Regional Airline News (C/RAN), based in Potomac, Md.

A spokesman for C/RAN and Rolls-Royce, the latter a British manufacturer of engines for small jet airliners, said the award was based on reader balloting and input from the newspaper's staff and took into consideration such factors as the company's air traffic, capacity and earnings.During its past fiscal year, ended March 31, SkyWest's traffic rose 14.4 percent, capacity was up 8.6 percent and load factors hit a record high 47.5 percent. Though yearly earnings have not yet been released, through the first nine months, SkyWest reported a 107 percent increase in earnings and a 26 percent increase in operating revenue.

C/RAN and Rolls-Royce will present Atkin with the award on May 25 at SkyWest's headquarters in St. George.
