Ellen Verlaine Strate Cox, 34, of Orem, died Saturday, May 21, 1994 at her parents' home in Spring City, Utah of cancer.
She was born September 10, 1959 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, a daughter of Elwood Kent and Herta Hildegard Ludwig Strate. She married Alan Scott Cox August 31, 1979 in the Manti LDS Temple. She graduated from North Sanpete High School and Snow College. She was a registration agent and election judge. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in numerous positions especially in the Primary, as Primary president, counselor and pianist. She also served in Cub Scouting as a Den Leader, Cubmaster, Committee Chairman, Squaw Peak District Staff member, and as a staff member of Discovery. She earned the Second Miler Award, the On My Honor Award, and was recently given the Squaw Peak District Award of Merit.Survivors include her husband, Alan; three sons and three daughters, Mark Alan Cox, Brent "K" Cox, Cindy Cox, Karen Cox, Darin Scott Cox, and Michelle Cox, all of Orem; her parents, Kentand Herta Strate, Spring City; one brother and four sisters, David Strate, Ephraim; Jean Nielson, LuDean White, and Ruth Ann Williams, all of Spring City; and Mehl Ree Snell, Orem.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 25, at 12 noon in the Sharon Park Stake Center, 85 East 700 North, Orem. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 600 East 800 North, Orem, and Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the stake center. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
