A former Uintah, Weber County, police officer was charged Monday with second-degree felony theft. He is accused of stealing up to $30,000 from a convenience store where he also worked.

Ross Kennedy, 23, was arraigned before 2nd Circuit Judge Roger Dutson. He waived a preliminary hearing and is scheduled to enter a plea to the charge May 31 before 2nd District Judge Stanton Taylor.Investigators said that Kennedy falsified records and stole money from the safe at Auto Fuel Plaza. Investigators say money had been missing from the store during the past year, and the complaint says Kennedy stole money on March 1.

Uintah Police Chief Craig Kendall said Kennedy had worked as a reserve officer in the small community south of Ogden until he was hired part-time last year. Kennedy has since resigned.
