Mont Kale Jewkes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on May 1, 1994, at his home in Carbonville, surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 16, 1916, in Orangeville, a son of Joseph Benjamin and Avis Fern Jackson Jewkes. He married Kate Ann Merkley on May 14, 1937, in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.He graduated from Carbon High School where he was an All-state and All-American football player in 1934. He worked as a master plumber for many years and retired as the maintenance engineer at the Carbon Hospital. He was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an avid sports enthusiast, fisherman, hunter and loved exploring `these dry old hills' of Utah.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Ronald Kale Jewkes (Dian) of Castle Dale; George Benny Jewkes (Joan) of Layton; Jerry Orlando Jewkes (Carolyn) of Gulfport, MIssissippi; and Dale Merkley Jewkes (Alice) of Carbonville; one brother, Joseph Lamar Jewkes (Thelma) of Price; 12 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister; three brothers, four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 5, 1994 at 10 a.m., Carbonville First Ward Chapel. Viewing will be Wednesday, May 4, from 7-9 p.m. at the Fausett Mortuary and at the church one hour prior to the funeral. He will be interred in the Maeser Cemetery in Vernal.
