The Heber Ranger District of the Uinta National Forest recently received a national Volunteer Program Award from U.S. Forest Service chief Jack Ward Thomas.
The award was presented to the district for "significant contribution toward conserving and managing natural resources and advancing the agency's mission through volunteer-related services."Volunteers assist in all program areas of the district.

As budget constraints increase, volunteers provide a tremendous service, said Robert Riddle, Heber District ranger. "We estimated a savings of $461,431 in standard operating procedures on the district during 1993 through the contributions of volunteers."
