Zion National Park is going to resurface its roads beginning Monday, May 9, according to Superintendent Donald A. Falvey.

The process, known as chip and seal, will seal cracks and provide a new surface on the red-colored volcanic cinders that have been used on these roads for many years. In order to miss the heavy weekend traffic, resurfacing will be done Mondays through Thursdays for several weeks.

On Tuesday, May 17, the Zion Canyon road will be closed all day from the Lodge to the Temple of Sinewava. This closure is necessary to avoid the extreme congestion that would otherwise result in that part of the canyon. This entire project, including dates and times, may be changed due to rain or cooler temperatures.
